DeGale and Sanavia as Londoner defends EBU crown

Londoner James DeGale attempts a first defence of his EBU (European) Super Middleweight Championship against former WBO World champion Cristian Sanavia.

The fight, LIVE on BoxNationTV April 21st, will be DeGale's first defence, with Sanavia designated as the mandatory challenger for the European title.

DeGale will take an 11 - 1 record into the ring. His most recent fight, a challenge for Piotr Wilczewski's WBO Intercontinental and EBU European Super Middleweight belts last October, saw Olympic Gold Medallist achieve a first world title.

Now, the Londoner looks to defend his belt for a first time, but he will face a stern challenge from experienced former World champion and fellow southpaw Cristian Sanavia.

Installed as the mandatory challenger by the EBU, Cristian Sanavia will enter the ring with a 45 - 5 - 1 record. The Italian has previously held the WBC and EBU belts at super middleweight, and WBC International and EBU straps at middleweight.

At the age of 37, he will bring bags of experience up against former Olympic Champion DeGale, as Sanavia looks to regain the European title he lost in 2008.
